Downloads from BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal and Radio Ulster have failed

Hi, I have noticed that downloads from BBC Radio nan Gaidheal and BBC Ulster/Foyle have failed since Monday night. Every attempt returns a message that no specified modes are available, despite the programmes being available on iPlayer. Any suggestions?

Example:

It seems to work here

Unfortunately, the BBC data for those programmes is broken, so get_iplayer can't find the usual streams. I wouldn't usually recommend WMA in this case because the stream available is low quality, and it records in real time, but that's the only option available at present.

The BBC metadata also lists the programmes as not yet available, which clearly isn't true. We've seen several programmes like this in recent weeks. The streams have usually shown up a few days later, so you might check again in a few days.

Same thing with Radio Cymru. I was able to download a wma version of a programme yesterday in real time (obviously not optimal), but even that has failed today.

Yr wyf yn sicr y gallwch ddysgu yn gyflym mewn gwirionedd

Strange that the mediaselector page only shows the wma version as available for these.

Do we know where the iPlayer gets the stream info from if it's not in the mediaselector?

Something to do with nitro?

user-2

Two different mediaselector APIs. I'll be switching get_iplayer to the other one. It's possible the old one has been left to rot.

Thanks for the speedy response(s). Looks like all the celtic stations are affected!

I will keep trying, and hope that the gaelic programmes (both kinds) return to the fold.

--modes=wma, as suggested by mrg9999, works - up to a point! It seems that some progs (e.g. --pid=b04n8t2k) are stored in multiple parts and only the first part is retrieved. Can this be fixed?

First cut at a patch for this is in Git. Info here:

Seems to work fine so far. Thanks!

user-727

Agreed, everything back and seems to be working fine. Thanks for your help.

DP,

I'm also unable to download Radio Ulster programs. I re-installed Win v2.90 from the above link but still no success. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Bump

user-585

The current version of git HEAD works for me.

Just tried The Radio Ulster Advent Calendar - 05-12-2014

user-742

No luck. Still getting the following

INFO: 1 Matching Programmes
INFO: Checking existence of default version
INFO: No specified modes (flashaachigh, flashaacstd, flashaudio, flashaaclow) avail
able for this programme with version 'default' (try using --modes=wma)
ERROR: Failed to record ' - (b04st6xs)'

WMA seldom works for the entire length of a program and it is easier to just play the stream, capture it with an audio recorder and screw with the resulting wav file

Thanks to anybody who understands this problem and how to solve it.

UPDATE

It works! Hooray! Great day in the morning!

Uninstalled the previous version and all its components. Reinstalled, dropped in the two patched files from DP at the link above and now Mickey Bradley is back. Christmas has come early. Thanks, guys!
