Hi there
I'm running Win 7 64-bit on my main systems, all drives formatted to NTFS (2 and 3TB drives). At the weekend I was trying to download some very long programmes from BBCTwo (the quarters, semis and finals from Queen's). I had a problem with the Quarter-finals programme and, trying a couple of times, it choked at the same point, when 4GB had been downloaded. I did, however manage to down the whole programme (over 5GB) using a laptop with Linux Mint installed.
I was always under the assumption that 32-bit systems were limited to 4GB, but a higher limit applied on 64-bit. Or am I wrong? Is there anything I could do to override this 4GB limit on my Win 7 system?
Following on from that, my download under Linux produced an .flv file. Now I know under the Windows setup, it deals with the transcoding to mp4 automatically but I don't have a clue how to do this manually. I looked at the Help Guide but just don't understand the section relating to transcoding.
I always download the programmes using the "best" rate possible. The semis were 1280x720 and the final at 832x468, but I don't have a clue what the rate was for the Quarter-final programme as this is an flv file.
Two questions then, relating to transcoding my 5GB file from flv to mp4:
1. Should this be done in Linux or can it be done under Win 7?
2. What is the exact command line in each case to save the file to the same folder using the same filename but mp4 file type?
Many thanks
Alan
