Viewing and recording of red button channels is not supported by get_iplayer. Catch-up programmes from red button channels are not indexed by get_iplayer, but they can be downloaded via PID or URL.
You can view red button channels with a media player such as VLC. You simply open the HLS master playlist for the red button channel of interest. There are two streams for each channel (one from Akamai, one from Limelight). The master playlist URLs look like:
where XX ranges from 01 to 24. Only some of the streams will be available at any given time and some will just be showing a "closed" graphic. You'll have to do some trial and error to figure out which stream carries which red button channel.
Recording of red button channels can be done with tools such as VLC and ffmpeg - that is left as an exercise for the reader. However, it is recommended that you simply wait for the event of interest to be posted to the iPlayer site and then download it with get_iplayer as normal.
