If you have the PIDs or URLs for specific programmes that generate "Segment not found" warnings, post them in this thread. This information is necessary to track the nature and extent of the problem, and whether or not it is resolved by the BBC. There is no way to know what programmes are affected if they are not identified by users. If you use non-default values for --modes or --tvmode, include those in your post as well

Do not post integer index numbers from search results - they are useless here. Do not post the output from get_iplayer or any information about audio sync issues. Don't post anything at all except PIDs or URLs for affected programmes. "Me too" posts and any posts without PIDs or URLs will be deleted

@aeboyles: The lower-quality streams, as well as other HD streams, generally work. It's the hlshd (or hlsbest) streams that show the problem. So far, you are the only one to happen on a lower-quality stream (hlsvhigh or hlsbetter) with missing segments. You need to test like-for-like with your original report.

I also had trouble with Britain's Pompeii. Just now I had trouble with Full Steam Ahead episode 3:

I was using hlsbest.

I think the issue I had may be connected with ffmpeg.

I had been using ffmpeg as an external HLS downloader.  When I downloaded this as "--raw" allowing get_iplayer to do its own HLS download, I was then able to use mkvmerge rather than ffmpeg to produce a usable MKV file from the TS file.

Although, I have not not watched the MKV file all the way through yet.

Also, youtube-dl had the same problems with the same files. youtube-dl uses ffmpeg for the HLS download from BBC.

I used --tvmode=best on both of these and got segments not found - has been this way for a couple of days now wheras previously all was fine.

if I use hvfhd1 downloads are fine, if somewhat huge.

Thanks everyone for your submissions. They have been very helpful in assessing this problem. I'm closing this thread for now, before Olympics programmes begin to come online.

It seems clear that the BBC is producing corrupt HLS media streams across the board. There is no way to know if the missing segments are due to production errors or server problems at the CDNs,  but it doesn't really matter from the perspective of a get_iplayer user. For now, use the hvf recording modes. If this continues much longer, a new release of get_iplayer, with hvf as the default recording modes, will be necessary.
