i was able to get the program though by doing the following

get_iplayer --type=radio "Programme Name"

and then getting the program number and
then getting it that way.

maybe it was just that show...  but when i did try the PID it listed all past shows and then nothing.

Using --pid=p02z6rsw downloaded that episode just fine ... for me.

p001d7fr is a brand PID not an episode PID. The brand PIDs work as you describe and list all series' and episodes of a programme that have ever been broadcast.
