Recent radio programme pages have added a download podcast after the flash player interface.
For example: A History of Ideas

I like to capture what was actually broadcast (better credits are given) - i.e the flash version.
Is there a way to prevent podcast being downloaded - even if the flash version is not currently
available?

Yes, so long as an HLS stream is available for the given radio programme (there should be).

I'll have a look at it again and try to rule out other factors. For some reason, some of the many Radio 4 programmes, I regularly download via the PVR, seem to get lost when using this HLS option.

There may be individual programmes that aren't available via HLS, or don't have a version labelled "original".  Use --info to see what versions and modes are available for a particular programme.
