Previously I wasn't getting artwork, now I am. Is it broken just for me? or is it something else I have/haven't set?
I can remove it with mp3tag, so only a minor problem.
Broken just for you, I'm afraid. If the above was not output from get_iplayer --prefs-show, run it and make sure the saved options look correct. Post the entire listing (scrub your username) along with a full command that demonstrates the problem.

Still broken just for you. Your command works fine. Remove aactomp3 from your preferences and see if noartwork is ignored for default M4A download as well. If it is, try removing noartwork from preferences and running with --no-artwork on command line.
In the future, use the get_iplayer output formatting button in the editor instead of just dumping an output spew into your post. We've created tools to help you avoid creating an unreadable mess - please use them.

I can't tell what you're trying to say. Did you get artwork in the M4A file or not? If you did, are you sure it is the BBC series thumbnail for The Archers? If in doubt, post the image as an attachment. You can drag it to disk from Mp3tag.
Also - don't put new information inside a quotation from a previous post. It makes it look like you haven't posted anything new.

I can strip it out using post processing like mp3tag
The reason I care, is on IOS, some 3rd party podcast players crash if artwork in in the file.
--no-tag removes the artwork, but also the other tags. Not a problem, as I mostly listen and delete. It's only the omnibus I keep for posterity.
Thanks. That is the expected thumbnail image. Neither --no-artwork nor --no-tag removes anything. They merely instruct get_iplayer either not to add artwork or not to add any metadata tags, respectively. For reasons unknown, --no-artwork apparently is not being picked up on your machine. Run the same command again with --show-options added and make sure that noartwork = 1 appears in the output.

According to the output you posted, get_iplayer (via AtomicParsley) is definitely not adding a thumbnail image to the file. You can see for yourself that AP is invoked without the --artwork option. Try this: Run the exact same command again with --thumb and --output=... added to the command line arguments. --thumb will retain any thumbnail file that is downloaded. Use --output to override your preferences to set the output directory to a folder on your system hard drive, presumably mounted at C:. Don't put it on a NAS, USB drive or any other external device. The idea is to get a completely fresh version of the file created in what should be a predictable environment.

I just tried a fresh install in a new vm, and it does exactly the same, it creates the jpg in c:\temp.
So did the latest files have a thumbnail image embedded? What are you using to check for the presence of a thumbnail? Mp3tag? It doesn't matter that the .jpg file was downloaded - was it added to the audio file?
Sorry, yes, the picture is in the m4a file.
If i use windows, remove properties, it deletes the image.

The file you posted does not contain embedded artwork. VLC or WMP will pick up a folder.jpg or AlbumArtSmall.jpg file (may be hidden files) in the same directory and display it as cover art. I have no idea how such files would have beeen created, particularly in a clean directory as I directed for your last test run. Where Mp3tag or Windows Explorer pick up the artwork from I can't say, but it isn't from an image embedded in your file. Mp3tag can store downloaded artwork in folder.jpg, but I don't think it creates it by default. Maybe you have some kind of Explorer extension installed on your machine.
Whatever the case, I'm bowing out. Your log output and the associated M4A file prove that get_iplayer is working correctly. It is not adding embedded artwork to output files when --no-artwork is specified. Maybe someone else here will recognise your symptoms and can identify the culprit, but you've demonstrated to my satisfaction that it is not get_iplayer.
