Subtitles: strange issue

user-92

Hello, I'm new to the forums but have been using get_iplayer for a few months now on Windows. I love the program, thanks very much for it!

Anyway, the issue I'm having in that the subtitle files are downloading with only certain lines of subs included. For example, Science Britannica Ep2: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01...d_Madness/
The opening lines are "On 28th March 1726, a coffin was carried into Westminster Abbey". This correctly displays on the BBC website, but on the downloaded subs I have this:
Dialogue: 0,0:00:33.24,0:00:36.16,Default,,0,0,0,,- On 28th March, 1726,
then nothing. The next line downloaded is:
Dialogue: 0,0:00:43.32,0:00:45.88,Default,,0,0,0,,- although he wasn't a politician.

So basically, the subs are mostly unusable. Is there a workaround? Are others having the same problem?

Cheers,
Sarc

welcome to the forums

yes people have seem to reporting this issue, it has been mention on the mailing list forum

http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/get...bject.html look for subject title mentioning "subtitles"

as an avid subtitle lover i am happy to say it seem to have been quickly resolved by using the latest version of get_iplayer on gits

http://git.infradead.org/get_iplayer.git look for title "Handle multiline subtitles"

if you need more help please bump this thread

hope to have helped

Sarciness: For the time being, follow these instructions to get the latest get_iplayer with fixes for subtitles:

https://squarepenguin.co.uk/wiki/install...itheadwin/

The genesis of this problem is that within the last 1-2 weeks, the BBC switched to a new subtitles file format that is truly diabolical, forcing changes to get_iplayer code.

Thank you both very much! I downloaded the latest Githead and subs downloaded fine this time.

Problem solved. Cheers,
