Normally I just download everything I want first thing in the morning and leave the PC to run at full dl speeds, but during the day I sometimes download more programmes and would like to be able to restrict the speed at which GIP downloads but still download the HD versions.

Is there an option anywhere to temporarily restrict the dl speed like I would in torrents so it doesn't max out my connection while I'm working on other things?

No. You might be able use a third-party utility, but we can't help you with that.
