I think I might have the same thing
I never open get_iplayer from the start menu because I hate how it seeks a list for pvr or whatever at the start and takes ages when usually I just want to download one particular program (I don't watch much tv), so I just open it from the command line, I really love get_iplayer though :)
I also read this thread and did do that force manual update of cache thing to see if it helps, and waiting for the dots to finish, but doesn't help:
